Registered Veterinary Technologist, RVT

Krista’s passion for animals started at a very young age. After growing up with two cats and a large dog who were her best friends, she decided to start volunteering at an animal shelter on her evenings and weekends when she was 11 years old.

This trend continued all throughout her school years and immediately after high school Krista started her schooling at Douglas College in the Animal Health Technology program. After 2 years she graduated in 2010 as a Registered Veterinary Technologist.

Krista can be found caring for the hospitalized patients at BVH. She has a strong interest in low stress handling techniques, especially in regards to our feline patients, and a passion to care for all animals and nurse them back to health. This includes her dedication to ensuring all patients are a healthy body weight in our weight loss program.

Krista lives with a quirky Cairn Terrier Mix named Juliet who is diabetic and has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Juliet was adopted from the Burnaby SPCA after being diagnosed as diabetic. Krista also has the pleasure of living with Coco. He is a Chocolate Labrador Retriever who Krista adopted after he was hit by a car and needed a place to recover and be nursed back to health. Krista has kitty family members as well: a one-eyed orange Maine Coon Mix named Gabe, a black Domestic Medium Hair named Annie, a calico Domestic Medium Hair named Athena, and a Himalayan named Soda. Her cats have also had their medical problems. Gabe has inflammatory bowel disease, Annie had a diaphragmatic hernia that was surgically fixed, Athena is healthy (other than being found as a stray with fleas and not spayed), and Soda has behavioural issues. In addition to her dogs and cats, Krista lives with a guinea pig and a turtle that were all inherited.

When Krista is not at work she can be found caring for her animals at home, enjoying the outdoors, and enjoying a good TV show or movie.
