Dr. Claudia Richter
Dr. Richter graduated in 2004 from the University of Munich, Germany. She moved to cold Saskatoon, Saskatchewan right after graduation and worked at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine for two years. She gathered experience in the large and small animal clinics as well as the pathology and anesthesia departments during her stay there. In 2006 she decided to move to Vancouver together with her partner Trent. Claudia started working for Dr. McIntyre in 2007. Dr. McIntyre has been a mentor to her and helped to enhance both Claudia’s surgical and clinical skill sets. Amongst multiple continuing education seminars, she has completed a variety of surgical, dental and diagnostic imaging courses, including surgical repair of cruciate ligament ruptures, fracture repair and abdominal ultrasound. Her special interests are orthopedic surgeries and dentistry.
As a very special honor, Dr. Richter was recently awarded the 2013 BC SPCA Veterinarian of the Year Award. This award goes to a veterinarian who has gone above and beyond to help pets in need. Though the award is an individual one, Claudia would be the first to admit that she is just ‘part of the team’ at Burnaby Veterinary Hospital and as such this is more a reflection on all the staff at BVH rather than any one person.
Claudia and Trent have two dogs of their own, Fergie and Kona, two shepherd crosses who keep them busy and outside in the beautiful mountains of Vancouver.
